desde one missisipi hasta lapalco pasaron 6 años, debido a todas las cosas por las que pasó brendan benson para poder lanzar su primer disco. es en el 2002, con lapalco, cuando obtiene cierta repercusión en europa, y a partir de ese momento decide tomar su carrera en serio. en marzo de este año salió the alternative to love, que exhala pop por sus cuatro costados; incorporando elementos que lo hacen más digerible, esta vez sin la ayuda de su amigo jason falkner: "dada la distancia, no se ha dado la coincidencia, pero la puerta sigue estando abierta a trabajar juntos de nuevo” dice este músico afincado en detroit acerca de la ausencia de su amigo. el single "cold hands warm heart" es el momento más emotivo del disco, una relación que se vuelve más intensa con el video de este tema; aquí la letra:
