¿qué es exactamente the sunshine underground? ¿un híbrido post-punk, disco, dance, indie, brit-pop, noise, ska,etc? lo más probable es que alguien poco obsevador los tilde de lo primero que se le venga a la cabeza -en este caso, la corriente más "in" del momento-, convirtiéndose así en un grupo revivalero más. bah, the sunshine underground es más que eso.
"they might have daft punk in their dna, but they are songsmiths too, indie-kids who love blur and radiohead" ¿más confusión? ¿y el nombre de la banda? sugiere elementos contrapuestos, un sol artificial dentro de una cueva o un manto de nubes prefabricadas bajo el sol. simplemente es un tema de los chemical brothers.
"huge choruses, boisterous bass lines and repetitive beats" si ellos mismos lo dicen en su biografía no habría por qué contradecirlos; the sunshine underground ha debutado este 28 de agosto con raise the alarm; toda una sorpresa para quien buscaba un grupo simplemente bueno. el cuarteto de leeds tiene en commercial breakdown a su principal estandarte, pero sin desmerecer al resto de temas, que muestran una amplia variedad de sensaciones y ritmos que los ponen unos centimetros más arriba que otras bandas británicas. mejor leamos lo que el vocalista craig wellington dice sobre sus ambiciones con esta banda: "we just want to carry on making music - i don't want to have to think about having another job again, it'd just be a nightmare. the songs we write are definitely poppy but i like to dirty them up a bit, we don't want to end up sounding like the kaisers or whatever."
